As followers of Jesus, we celebrate the love and mercy that He demonstrated on the cross for us, taking our sins on as His own so that we might be freed from them. We are thankful every day for the new life the He gives us, but we reflect even more so on the miracle of it during the Easter period.
Join us this Good Friday in various areas of Wakefield as we come together to reflect, worship and celebrate our good God and all that He has done for us!
All are welcome to the services and Walks of Witness ran by different Churches and ecumenical groups in the Wakefield District.
'He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.' - 1 Peter 2:24
For Lent 2024, leaders from churches across Wakefield are joining together for the first time to run a Lent course. You are welcome to come and join us in studying, worshipping and praying together, using Rev. David Gerrard’s new book ‘Creation to New Creation’. Each week we will read and reflect on stories from Genesis, with the aim to find freedom in who we are, both our failures and our gifts, and grow into the fullness of life God has for us.
The course will be running every Wednesday evening at 7pm for 6 weeks in the lead up to Easter. Different churches will be hosting each week, please see the flyer on the right for more details.
Jesus came to set the prisoner free and break down dividing walls…let’s come and worship Him collectively as one church, the body of Christ.
‘Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?’ - Isaiah 58:6
Overview of the book ‘Creation to New Creation’
In the book 'Creation to New Creation' we are all invited to journey through Lent by exploring the book of Genesis. As we read about these ancient people (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Sarah, Rebecca, Tamar) the more we discover the God who calls us to both accept our true selfs and to embark on the adventure of broadening our horizons and breaking through the chains that would hold us back. Each day we look at the story, reflect on what it says to us and find the freedom of owning who we are, both our failures and our gifts, and growing into the fullness of life God has for us.
"This book is a gift for those who wish to read afresh the Genesis story." Bishop Nick Baines
